THE CICADAS ARE COMING!

The area's 17-year (or periodical) cicadas, known as Brood X, will emerge this spring. This unique event will bring millions to billions of these insects out of the ground and into the spotlight for a few weeks from late April until late June. While they are rather loud, large, and ungainly, cicadas are harmless to humans and are a favorite treat for much of Herndon's local wildlife, like raccoons, birds, bats, opossums, and even people! Learn more about Brood X at the kiosk located at the main Runnymede Park entrance.
